Semiconductor rises again! Up to 20%

Feb,06,2023 << Return list

TSMC first sent out the price increase according to different customers. Some customers have applied the new price since late August, and some customers have adopted the price increase since October. Among them, the mature process is increased by 15% to 20%, and the advanced process is increased by 10%. Liandian will also start the fourth wave of price increase in this quarter, with an average increase of 10% in November and a 15% increase in some manufacturing processes.

The report also said that in terms of chips, the demand for power management IC and drive IC is still in the high price range, and some items are also reported to be negotiating with customers for further price increases. Some insiders predict that the power management IC may be out of stock until the second half of next year, leading to the continued optimism of the relevant enterprises such as Sili-KY and Lianyong in the secondary market.

In the middle of September, according to the latest quarterly global wafer factory forecast report released by the International Semiconductor Industry Association (SEMI), the expenditure on wafer factory equipment will hit a record high for three years in a row, and the world is witnessing a rare price rise record in the history of the semiconductor industry. The report predicts that driven by the trend of global digital transformation and the rise of emerging technologies, the total investment in semiconductor equipment in the world's front-end fabs will reach a record high of nearly 100 billion US dollars in 2022 to meet the market's increasing demand for electronic products.

The report said that in the face of the continuous rise in wafer OEM prices, IC design factories also launched countermeasures. An IC design factory revealed that the price of wafer products increased in the first half of the year, mainly because of the increase in the cost of wafer foundry and packaging and testing. Since the second half of the year, there have been wafer foundries raising their prices, but if the customer's demand for wafers is too urgent, they can only adjust the prices appropriately again.

As for the price increase of chips in the fourth quarter, some IC designers said that they were still discussing with customers. Take the TSMC chip placement as an example, the relevant quotation will be increased by 20%. The IC design factory is considering whether to raise the price of all categories or adjust the price only for the products put into production in TSMC.
