Silicon-based OLEDs are now in an investment boom.

The silicon-based OLED industry chain includes upstream raw materials, midstream OLED panel manufacturing and downstream OLED applications. Upstream includes silicon substrate, drive IC, metal materials, organic materials, packaging materials and other major links, providing raw materials and equipment for midstream OLED micro-display manufacturers. After midstream manufacturers manufacture display panels, their products can be applied to headwear display products, intelligent wearable products, industrial instruments, medical instruments and other downstream application products.

With the increasing demand for silicon-based OLED display panels for AR glasses, VR helmets, infrared detectors, 3D medical devices, etc., the market is widely optimistic about the prospects of silicon-based OLED.

European and American companies entered the market earlier. At present, there are few manufacturers engaged in the development and production of OLED micro-displays in the world. It is mainly concentrated in European and American countries, including eMagin of the United States, Micro Emissive Displays (MED) of the United Kingdom, Fraunhofer IPMS Research Institute of Germany, Micro OLED of France, Sony of Japan, and the three domestic silicon-based OLED giants of Aureate, BOE and Vision-based technology. The upstream industry chain of silicon-based OLED is mainly controlled by Japan and South Korea, and the competition pattern of eMagin, MicroOLED and Aureate has formed in the middle stream.

Several giant companies have promoted the technology development and mass production of silicon-based OLEDs. Since May 2020, domestic display manufacturers have made frequent investments in silicon-based OLEDs. The investment scale of production lines in 2020 will exceed 20 billion yuan. Anhui Xitai Technology invested 12 billion yuan in Huzhou, Zhejiang Province to build a production line project of silicon-based OLED micro-display with an annual output of 250000 pieces.

By December 2020, BOE has built an 8-inch silicon-based OLED production line, and has invested in building the world's largest 12-inch silicon-based OLED production line.
